Harish Patel (born 5 July 1953 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India) is an Indian TV and Film actor. Although mainly worked as a stage actor, he has appeared in movies and on TV Shows. He started performing at the age of 07 when he played male and female parts in the Hindu epic Ramayana. He begins his film debut in Mandi along with Naseeruddin Shah directed by Shyam Benegal in 1983. From 1994 to 2008, Harish has done work with the eminent Indian theatre director Satyadev Dubey. In 1995, he joined the Indian National Theatre and appeared in the stage play Neela Kamra. He worked in many famous plays. In the spring of 2007, Harish took the lead role of Eeshwar Dutt in Rafta, Rafta..., a comedy written by writer Ayub Khan-Din and directed by Nicholas Hytner at the National Theatre in London to which got appreciation and applauds. Harish's works include The Buddha of Suburbia (1993), Mr India (1987), China Gate (1998), and Run Fatboy Run (2007). In 2009 he appeared in Coronation Street playing the character of Umed, Dev Alahan's uncle. Patel also appeared in Mr Stink (2012), Gangsta Granny (2013), The Boy in the Dress (2014) and Billionaire Boy (2016), the TV film adaptations of children's books by David Walliams. He plays shopkeeper Raj in all the movies, although they are set in different places. His acting career has taken him all over India, and he has performed in England and abroad, in America and Dubai among other countries. Harish is a life member of the Cine & Television Artists Association of India. Harish is mainly known for his catchphrase "gayee bhains paanee mein", in the movie Mr. India. He made his Bollywood movie debut with Mandi (1983), made his International movie debut with Run Fat Boy Run (2007), and made TV debut with Yatra (1986).
